My queer friendships not only offered me solidarity and support, they were also a space where we could collectively question and unlearn the heteronormative patterns we had inadvertently internalized. Queer friendships, built on a shared sense of belonging and care, can be transformative. Above all, how was I to understand and accept this reality in the first place? Of course, I knew then that I was attracted to women as well, but I had little idea of what to do with that knowledge in a deeply heteronormative world, and whether it was possible to live a life that would reflect my reality. I tried to replicate that same pattern of intimacy. Growing up, the only romantic relationships I saw around me were heterosexual and monogamous.
I almost exclusively dated cisgender men, and I was even physically attracted to them, but did not find in these relationships the intimacy or companionship that I had hoped for. In my late teens and early 20s, dating was a fraught exercise. Long before I came to understand and accept my own queerness as a woman, I found my deepest connections among friends rather than romantic partners. With hard-fought battles alongside softness and vulnerability, these stories highlight what it is to love others as well as ourselves. You will be assigned to one Inner Circle Group (A, B, or C), which is determined by your time zone or by request. Exact session times are subject to change. Many attendees use the information they learn to start or enhance their professional work, especially in fields where they want to share the truth about living deliberately and creating consciously.Īlready there are 2,500 trainers in 42 countries working with children and teens, women's shelters, people in prisons, the homeless, those in addiction recovery, and in halfway houses. Most attendees don't know if they want to be trainers, but they come to be surrounded by like-minded people while learning tools and techniques to help others.
